How to import a WeTransfer link into Premiere Pro
A client sends a huge WeTransfer and the clock is ticking. Here is the clean manual way, its traps, and how to skip the download entirely.
The 200 GB WeTransfer problem
A client sends a WeTransfer link to a day of footage. You open it, start a long download, wait for a zip to build, unzip it, move the files into your project folder, and only then import into Premiere Pro. By the time you are done, hours have passed, your SSD has a second copy of everything, and on a free transfer the link may already be close to expiring. There is a cleaner path, but the manual way is worth doing right first.
The manual way, step by step
- Open the WeTransfer link and start the download right away, before the link lapses.
- Let the zip finish, then unzip it to a known location, not your Downloads folder.
- Move the footage into your project media folder, keeping the client folder structure.
- In Premiere Pro, use Import or the Media Browser to bring the clips in from that folder.
Check what you actually received
Big transfers fail quietly. Before you start cutting, compare the number of files and their total size against what the client said they sent. Zips can arrive truncated on a weak connection, and a missing clip is far cheaper to catch now than the night before delivery. Open a few files to confirm they play, especially the hero shots.
Import the link directly, no download
Sanbila is desktop software with cloud storage and a Premiere Pro panel validated by Adobe. Instead of downloading the transfer, you paste the WeTransfer link into Sanbila and the files move server to server into the cloud, so nothing lands on your machine during the transfer. Once they are in, you edit on light proxies or stream the originals at full quality, and the Premiere panel attaches a proxy to each clip so export needs no manual relink. Link import works from the free plan, within its 5 GB.
Paste a transfer link, skip the download, and edit from the cloud in Premiere.

The same server to server import handles SwissTransfer and Google Drive links. With Google Drive, a Google page opens so you choose the folder or the exact files to bring in, and a whole folder can come across at once. If most of your incoming footage arrives on Drive, the dedicated guide on importing Google Drive into Premiere and Resolve walks through that flow end to end.
FAQ
How long does a WeTransfer link stay up?
A free WeTransfer transfer is available for 3 days from when it is sent, after which the files are removed. With a free account you can extend a link up to 7 days in the app. Paid plans allow longer or unlimited availability.
Can I import WeTransfer into Premiere without downloading?
Yes. With the Sanbila panel in Premiere Pro you paste the WeTransfer link and the files move server to server into the cloud, so your machine never downloads the transfer. You then edit on proxies or stream the originals.
Does the client need Sanbila to send me the link?
No. The client sends a normal WeTransfer, SwissTransfer or Google Drive link as usual. Only you need Sanbila to pull it in server to server.
Is link import available on the free plan?
Yes. Importing from a link is available on every plan, including the free 5 GB plan. The transfer counts against your storage like any other import.
