Frequently asked questions
Everything editors ask us before switching.
What is a proxy file in video editing?+
A proxy is a lightweight, lower-resolution copy of your original footage (usually H.264, ProRes Proxy, or DNxHR LB) used for smooth playback and editing on any computer. Sanbila generates proxies automatically, keeps them on your SSD, and swaps back to the original high-resolution files at export time.
Why does my SSD keep filling up when editing?+
Modern cameras shoot 4K, 6K, or 8K footage at 100 to 500 Mbps. A one-hour shoot easily takes 50 to 100 GB of raw files. Even a 2 TB SSD fills up after three or four shoots if you keep everything local. Sanbila solves this by keeping only small proxies on disk and originals in the cloud.
How does Sanbila work with Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, Final Cut Pro, and Avid?+
Sanbila creates a Virtual Folder made of symbolic links that your editor sees as regular files. You point Premiere, Resolve, FCP, or Avid at that folder and edit normally. No plugin to install. At export time, Smart Relink analyses the timeline, streams only the clips you actually used from the cloud, and your NLE sees them as local files.
Do I need an internet connection to edit?+
No. Once your proxies are generated, they live on your SSD and you can edit fully offline. Internet is only required to import new footage and during the final export if you choose to conform against the originals streamed from the cloud.
Are my original files safe in the cloud?+
Your originals are stored on Cloudflare R2 with an automatic redundant secondary backup. Zero egress fees, SHA-256 checksum verification at upload and on every fetch, and encrypted-at-rest storage. Only you can access your files.
What does it cost?+
Free plan includes 5 GB cloud storage and one project, with no credit card required. Paid plans start at $49/month for freelancers (2 TB, 50 projects) and go up to $599/month for post-production houses (25 TB, 25 users, 1000 projects). You can switch or cancel any time.
Can I use Sanbila in a team?+
Yes, Studio and Enterprise plans include project-level collaboration. Invite teammates as Editor (full access) or Viewer (read-only). Sanbila prevents conflicts and tracks who did what. Each project has its own user limit: 3 for Studio, 25 for Enterprise.
How does Sanbila compare to Frame.io or LucidLink?+
Frame.io focuses on review, annotations, and client approvals. LucidLink presents the cloud as a local drive but charges egress fees. Sanbila focuses on the proxy-edit-export loop: lightweight local files for editing plus streamed originals only at export. We are cheaper on storage, charge zero egress, and work without an always-on internet connection.
