Roughly the footage length times a factor for the proxy codec and your machine. ProRes Proxy is fast; H.265 is the slowest. These are estimates.
How much space do proxies take?+
Far less than the originals. A 1080p ProRes proxy is a fraction of a 4K master, but it still adds up across a full shoot.
Do I need a proxy for every clip?+
No. For clips you only review once, streaming the original avoids generating and storing a proxy at all.
