Offline video editing with cloud originals

Cloud editing tools that stream every frame, like LucidLink, Frame.io or Dropbox Replay, assume a working connection for every click. The moment the Wi-Fi drops on a plane, on set, on a train, or in a cafe with weak bandwidth, playback stalls and the timeline stops responding. A streaming-only workflow is only as reliable as the connection under it, which is exactly the thing you cannot count on while travelling.

Most of editing does not actually need the internet. Cutting, trimming, adding effects, building sequences: all of that is local work on media the NLE can already read. The connection is only genuinely required when footage first comes in and when the finished cut goes out.

Sanbila is built proxy-first, so the connection is only needed at the two ends. You import once, which uploads your originals to cloud storage with a backup copy and caches a light proxy on your SSD. From then on the proxies are local files: you build virtual folders, cut, and clean the cache entirely offline, because those are local operations, not cloud calls. The app keeps your session alive when the network drops rather than logging you out, and a slim proxy cache means your laptop is not pinging a cloud drive and draining the battery.

The internet comes back only at the ends. At import it uploads and makes proxies, and at export you reconnect so the full resolution originals stream from the cloud: in Premiere you leave Use Proxies unchecked, and in DaVinci Resolve, Final Cut or Avid, Smart Relink switches the timeline clips back to the originals. So you edit on the plane, and conform the moment you have a signal again. Because the cloud has no egress fee, pulling the originals at export costs no bandwidth bill.
